Corrections, updates, further information and web sites		Edition 3 updates   Page 9, col 1, Remote Control, lines 2 and 3.   The 500mW limit now applies only to Foundation and Intermediate licensees.  Full licensees are limited only by their schedule.  Clearly the general advice not to run more power than required is applicable here too. Page 75, col 3 just below mortar board. Line should read 73/2 = 36.5Ω Page 100 col 3, above heading Viewing RF and modulation: Line should read 3x2 = 6V peak or 12V peak to peak. The following updates or corrections should be noted to the 2nd edition, 2005, of Advance! Page 16, column 2 paragraph 2. The Health Protection Agency has now replaced the National Radiological Protection Board. Page 16, column 3, para 2, line 3. The frequency range shown should be '10 and 146MHz'. This should be noted as it has formed a question in the examinations. Page 20, line 2. A pi symbol has been missed out. It should read '...square roots and the value 'pi' (22/7 or approximately 3.142).' Page 20, 2nd line up from bottom. There is a 'pi' missing from the key stroke list, it should read 1/(4x pi x pi x 1.9 exp...), the calculation needs a pi squared. Page 27, column 1, line 8. The reference to page 7 should be page 26. Page 28, column 3, under reactance,, line 3. The figure reference should be to Fig 5.15 not 1.15. Page 45, The component identies have dropped off figure 7.3. The tuned circuit components are L and C, the two feedback capacitors, one above the other at C1 (top) and C2 (bottom). Click here for new diagram. Page 62, column 2, penultimate line, the number should read 555 not 5555. Page 66, column 1, shape factor, penultimate line of first paragraph, the text should read 3kHz wide at the -6dB point, insert the - sign Page 67, column 1, last two lines. The peak deviation for 12.5kHz systems should be 2.5kHz, not 3kHz as printed. Page 67, col 3, para 2 line 1. To properly tie up with Fig 9.17, the first sentence should read 'If the frequency is slightly below resonance'. The diagram at the bottom of the figure shows a positive output below resonance and a negative output above. Page 73, col 3, 2nd mortar, line 1 The figure reference should be to Fig 10.8, not 6.8. Page 87, caption to Fig 12.8, the text should refer to Fig 12.7, not 8.7. Page 89, Fig 12.11, text in the figure repeats the words 'between the' twice, delete one of them. Page 90, column 3, line 11, the reference to Fig 8.10 should be to 12.10. Page 98, column 3, last line. reference to Fig 9.8 should be 13.8. Page 101, column 2, 2nd line. reference to Fig 13.14 should be 8.14. Following UK amateur radio licence changes in December 2006 and the Advanced Examination syllabus was changed to reflect this.  The changes will take effect in exams taken after the 1st July 2007.  Should you be taking the examination after this date you are advised to substitute these pages for those in the book: Advanced Licence Conditions (pdf)
