British Science Week

British Science Week logo

British Science Week (BSW), run by the British Science Association (BSA), is an annual event celebrating science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). It provides a platform to support teachers, STEM professionals and the public in delivering STEM activities and events across the UK.

It is a fantastic opportunity to showcase amateur radio to new audiences, regardless of age.

British Science Week 2026

British Science Week 2026 will take place between 6–15 March. The BSA has chosen ‘Curiosity: what’s your question?‘ as its theme for 2026 and has been chosen to get you thinking about what you would like to learn about the world and how you would go about finding the answer.

The theme fits perfectly with amateur radio and led by RSGB British Science Week Co-ordinator Professor Ian Neal, G7IGN, the RSGB is creating resources you could use to take part. The first activity we’re launching is:

  • Riding the wave – follow this worksheet to give your friends/family/community an introduction to radio waves and amateur radio

Start planning

The key to any event is thorough planning and we have plenty of resources to help you. Visit our Planning a public event’ web pages for advice on a range of topics including risk management and promoting amateur radio to the public.

FM radio receiver kits and Morse code tutor kits

Students from St Peter in Thanet CE Junior School who took part in last year's FM Radio receiver kit build - in collaboration with RCF

In December, we announced that we’re giving away 400 FM radio receiver kits and Morse code tutor kits for young people to build.

Entry to take part in the activity has now closed but thank you to all the school, university, Scout, Girlguiding, Cadet and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) groups that completed the application form. If you have been successful, a member of the RSGB Outreach Team will be in touch soon.

This project is being delivered thanks to a partnership between the RSGB Outreach Team, the Radio Communications Foundation and the RSGB Legacy Fund.

If you haven’t been allocated a kit this time, there are a number of other amateur radio activities you could try for British Science Week – see our resources page to be inspired.
