EMC Committee

Nowadays the prevention of interference between radio and electronic equipment has become a major issue. This comes under the general name of 'electromagnetic compatibility' (EMC).

The committee has two main functions. The first is to give advice to members who have EMC problems. The co-ordinator scheme has been set up in order to deal with the large number of routine requests for advice on EMC matters. Members with problems first contact a co-ordinator who, in most cases, will be able to give the necessary advice. Problems which, for one reason or another, cannot be handled at co-ordinator level are passed on to a committee member specialising in that subject.

The second function is to ensure that the interests of radio amateurs are safeguarded in a world which is becoming increasing dominated by electronic devices. To achieve this the committee maintains contacts with industry, service providers and Ofcom.

In addition, the committee publishes information on EMC related topics and also carries out experimental work which is published for the benefit of members (in a bi-monthly 2-page column in RadCom).
