APRS/UiView Information

 

APRS, known variously as either the Amateur Position Reporting System or Amateur Packet Reporting System is the brainchild of Bob Bruninga, WB4APR. It has proved very useful for emercomms and public service work by providing real-time position reports of vehicles or personnel displayed on on-screen maps. However it is even more versatile and can be used for sending short 'text' type bulletins and can be interfaced with monitoring equipment such as electronic weather stations. New uses are constantly being developed.

In the UK and Europe, the most popular implementation of APRS is UiView, developed by Roger Barker, G4IDE, providing good support for mapping amongst its other attributes. The following are links (not exhaustive) to APRS/UiView resources :
