Science Week 2006 10-19 March 2006
Report on events held for Science Week 2006
Children and their teachers were shown how amateur radio ties in with the National Curriculum, can provide the knowledge needed for a career in high tech industries such as electronics and also brings together people of different nationalities from throughout the world. The Radio Society of Great Britain and its many affiliated local clubs have a long tradition of participating in Science Week, and this year put on a particularly exciting show. Thanks to this big effort, thousands of youngsters were exposed to the amazing world of amateur radio for the first time. One of the most successful amateur radio events was held at the Star Centre in Yorkshire where more than 100 pupils and teachers from several local schools were treated to an education in radio communications and space technology and given the chance to try out amateur radio for themselves. A non-amateur organiser of the event was full of praise. “It's been an overwhelming success, everybody thoroughly enjoyed it and the feedback from teachers, pupils, lecturers and students has been tremendous.” Other amateur radio events as part of Science Week have received similarly positive responses, and many youngsters have decided to pursue further an interest in amateur radio. Well done to all those involved. reports received for Scienceweek 2006 (pdf format) :
