Obtaining your 5MHz NoV

5MHz Notice of Variation

Applicants must be holders of the UK Full Amateur License and should have some idea of how they plan to experiment on these channels.  This can either be an experiment of their own, a small group of friends collectively working on a project, etc, or participation in the 5MHz Working Group's 5MHz Experiment.

Applying for a 5MHz NoV is a fairly simple process, and whether it is a renewal of an NoV that expired on 31st July 2006 or a first-time application you will need to either download the application form from this page (see how to do this below) or obtain one by contacting Ofcom. The application form should then be completed, signed and sent together with a photocopy of your current Amateur Radio Validation Document to Amateur Radio Dept (5MHz), Ofcom, Riverside House,2a Southwark Bridge Road, London SE1 9HA. The application is then logged and, for a new application, passed to the RSGB for checking against the requirements of the NoV,  and the recommendation passed back to Ofcom for action as necessary. The validation is administered by a volunteer within the 5MHz Working Group. In a few circumstances clarification of some aspects of the application is sought during this process. Normally, the processing of applications is done quite quickly; your patience is appreciated if any delays occur.

Downloading the application form

The application form is in the pdf format.  To be able to read this file you will need to have an "Acrobat Reader" installed on your computer.  If you haven't got this, or perhaps only have an old version, you can download the latest Acrobat Reader free from:
